Popular Theatre in the Age of Revolution

To examine the popular theatre in France from the close of the Regency to the Revolution in order to determine the role this theatre played in the dessemination of the ideas of the Enlightenment to a large audience. The study will focus on the "illegitimate" theatre and such authors as Sedaine, Fuzilier, and Piron.
