Edition of the Hieromachia with Historical Introduction

To complete the introduction to an edition of Hieromachia, a previously unedited 17th century verse drama. The play is an allegorical presentation of the so-called Chalcedon controversy about the appointment of a Catholic bishop for England. Neither author, date, nor provenance of Hieromachia is known, and the drama contains cryptic reference to contemporary people and events.
