To locate, identify and catalogue English canon law manuscripts from before 1066 which are among the materials now at the Vatican library. This will make it possible to establish their relationship in form and concept to contemporary royal law, and will provide a more accurate assessment of the relative importance of Germanic and Latin legal ideas in early England.
