The Personnel of the Chancery, 1660-1667

FAIN: FT-12558-75

Paul H. Hardacre
Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN 37203-2416)

To study the personnel of the Chancery as part of a biography of Edward Hyde, Earl of Clarendon and Lord Chancellor of England from 1658 to 1667. Besides being the great court of equity, the Chancery was a major branch of the administration of the kingdom. The 1660's was a period of great change and reform. The study will elucidate the general political atmosphere in Restoration England as well as provide some perspective from which to view and judge the effects of the Puritan Revolution.
