To discover records and visual evidence for Japanese painting and culture during a period of intensive borrowing of foreign ideas (1424- 1463 paintings attributed to a Zen priest named Shubun.). Results of what is learned about the early fifteenth century would add new knowledge to the Japanese process of transforming outside stimuli which is so important today.
