To write an intellectual biography of Houston Stewart Chamberlain (1855-1927), an Englishman who became one of the most important nationalists and racist thinkers of Wilhelmine and Weimar Germany. The study describes the development of Chamberlain's ideas and personality, traces his growing involvement in the world of Wagnerism and Bayreuth, and explains the evolution of his political views.
