To examine the relationship between Romanticism and science fiction. Romanticism was the first literature to recognize that consciousness is a projection of ideas upon the work, and to dramatize the conflict which ensues when the self acts or reacts upon awareness of a condition which is both man's finitude and creative freedom. P.I. maintains that science fiction was contemporary with and an extension of Romanticism.
