The Analysis of Vagueness in a Formal Theory of Natural Language Semantics

FAIN: FT-12736-75

Sally M. Ginet
Cornell University (Ithaca, NY 14850-2820)

To study the semantic phenomenon of vagueness in the English language by examining the work of Kamp (1974) on adjectival vagueness and other analyses. The aim of this study is a definition of the importance for natural language study of a formal theory of vagueness; in general, the aim is to help narrow the gap between formal semantics and the semantic theory of natural languages.
