To investigate the periods of dominance, 1920-1936, and decline, 1936-1945, of the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago, once known as the "Chicago School." With the guidance of Thomas Kuhn, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, study will focus on the School's conceptual framework, biographical and societal factors, and professional politics in American sociology, 1920-1945.
