FAIN: FT-13050-76

James F. Traer
Lynchburg College (Lynchburg, VA 24501-3113)

To study changes in family and succession law during the French Revolution, specifically legislation which sought to guarantee equality of inheritance. Using the records of one judicial district it will be possible to determine how effective the law was and the ways in which heirs sought to evade the new law the purpose of which was to achieve the leveling of family fortunes and the creation of a more nearly equalitarian society.
