The Politics of the Avant Garde

To study the relationships between intellectuals, aesthetics and, politics with a focus on some 20th century avant-garde movements; Dadaism, Futurism, Surrealism, and Expressionism. Aesthetic theories and political ideologies will be analyzed from a comparative historical perspective in terms of the particular social, political, and economic position of the intelligentsia in different countries.
