To determine the extent to which it is possible to regard artworks as having cognitive functions, viz., as possessing symbolic values analogous to the elements and conveying truth claims or of embodying and conveying truth claims or of displaying other semantic capacities. To demonstrate an understanding of these issues for a theory of knowledge and explore the evident implications for artistic and aesthetic education.
