To collect, classify, and evaluate from the point of view of musical style copies of minstrel show songs in selected music libraries and theatre libraries. Study would result in; materials for a course in the history of minstrel show; future concert performances and recordings of representative minstrel show songs; and an extensive essay on the music of the minstrel show which would be a central chapter in a book of essays on topics in 19th century American music.
