FAIN: FT-13286-77

Louisiana State University and A&M College (Baton Rouge, LA 70803-0001)

To complete an essay on William Darby, frontier man of letters; study will follow his career and travels, focus attention on his associations with the periodicals of Samuel C. Atkinson--the Saturday Evening Post and the Casket, and discuss the sequence of narratives published from 1829-36 under the pseudonym "Mark Bancroft." A chronological bibliography of Darby's magazine narratives and a selection of six narratives, edited and annotated will be included. Introductory notes will establish the relationship between the individual text and the canon as a whole.
