To research, as part of a general social history of the Caribbean, from an anthropological perspective: (1) forms of labor in Caribbean history; (2) relationships between forms of labor and the emergency of racial and ethnic systems of classification^ and (3) the similarities and differences between Caribbean aesthetic (literary products) and the realities of Caribbean life they purport to depict.
