To analyze the influence of "speculative mythology” both directly and indirectly through British Romantic literature, on the American Romantics. Analysis of this myth in American Romantic fiction and poetry will probably show a darker strain in American literature, a pronounced modification of the Promethean theme of the British Romantics.
