To continue research into the interaction of use and design in 17th century Roman palaces. PI will examine palazzi in Rome in order to study this interaction and to place these buildings in their broader Italian context. Roman society of the 17th century was distinctive - ecclesiastical, conducted according to elaborate protocol and supported by large household staffs. PI believes these factors accounting great part for the design of these buildings.
