Biography of Pope Pius IX

FAIN: FT-13498-77

Frank J. Coppa
St. John's University, New York (Queens, NY 11439-9000)

To continue research in archives in Rome and New York for a biography of Pope Pius IX. Pius, the longest reigning pope and chief architect of the modern Papacy, assumed the responsibility of defending Rome against the Risorgimento and the traditional religion against the liberal and nationalist currents. Previous biographies have been more polemic than historical. PI hopes to be historical.
