To determine whether or not irrigation was practiced in prehistoric southeast Spain and when (if at all) it was introduced. The history of land use patterns recovered by foot and vehicle survey, will permit reconstruction of a sequence of agricultural evolution to be matched against the already known changes in social structure and values so as to clarify how intensification of subsistence technology influenced the development of social stratification and attendant social norms and vice versa.
