To continue research for a critical biography of Margaret Cavendish, England's first major woman of letters (1623-73). This work would examine her scientific writings in the context of her life and times, her literary achievement in relation to 17th century traditions and in regard to how her style and form were affected by her concern for the role of women, and the social ambience in which she worked as a background to her opinion on a wide variety of social topics.
