To examine personal identity and compensatory justice so as to determine the extent to which individuals not themselves harmed may be compensated for crimes to other individuals with whom they identify. Present compensatory strategies all seem to presuppose that the parties to be helped are the very ones who would have been better off if the original wrong had not taken place.
