To study the efforts of a significant segment of the middle-class and educated Muslim population in Russia from 1903 to the outbreak of World War I, to achieve for the Russian Islamic community liberation from two burdens: that of the past, and that of religious and cultural oppression. PI will examine the Muslim periodical press, literature and printed speeches.
