To describe the religious sensibility of the later Middle Ages in England and to apply the doctrinal and devotional implications of that religious sensibility to a re-interpretation and re-evaluation of the literary significance of the two major dramatic genres of the time: the Corpus Christi cycle and the morality. Study will consider The Wakefield Plays and Everyman and will show how every aspect of medieval drama--characterization, thematic structure, etc.--is informed by the theological tradition in which the plays arose and thrived.
