To research archival materials in Victoria, British Columbia pertaining to the late 19th and 20th century Haida Indians. This project will supplement the biography (already written) of Florence Edenshaw Davidson (b.1896), Haida woman of Masset, British Columbia. The final biography will be threefold: 1)it will provide the first life history account of a native woman from the Northwest Coast; 2) it will document a period of rapid and intensive culture change among the Haida; and, 3) it will bring together two perspectives in the analysis of native culture history—the native perspective or life history and the historigraphical approach.
