FAIN: FT-13731-78

Susan P. Conrad
Unaffiliated independent scholar

To do full-time research on the life and work of Charlotte Perkins Gilman, American intellectual feminist. The beginning stage of this project will result in a full-scale biography of this important woman. Interest in Gilman began after research of P.I's previous book. Perish the Thought: Intellectual Women in Romantic America, 1830-1860 (Oxford University Press, 1976) when P.I. analyzed Gilman's position among counterparts in a social profile of intellectual women in post- Civil War America. A turbulent, vivid personality, Gilman was not only an interesting and significant American intellectual but also the foremost theoretician of her day.
