The Structure of Imperial Ritual in Medieval China

To analyze the structure of imperial ritual in T'ang and Sung China (7th to 13th centuries A.D.) in order to demonstrate that an understanding of ritual is crucial to a more mature appraisal of medieval Chinese society and polity. Imperial ceremonials will be reconstructed in considerable detail based upon evidence in a corpus of Chinese ritual texts.
