To investigate the literary relationship between Blake and Spenser, and to trace the various ways in which the Spenserian tradition came down to Blake. Blake’s early poems and the works of such eighteenth century "transmitters" of the Spenser-Wilton tradition such as Thomson, Collins, Akenside, Thomas Warton, Gray, and Cowper will be examined in this study of Blakes indebtedness to the eighteenth century.
