Pilot Study of Tribal Music in India

To conduct a pilot study of the music of selected tribal groups in India based on the observation that recordings of tribal music from certain areas show a striking resemblance in style to the drum ensemble music of West Africa. Evidence is sought to support the hypothesis that the music of widely separated and unrelated peoples can nevertheless be very similar, and that where similarities are indeed found, the social setting and cultural context of the music will also be similar.
