University of Louisiana at Lafayette (Lafayette, LA 70503-2014)

To continue work on a full-length case study of the New Orleans Slaughter House Case which was decided by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1873. This case arose out of 150 suits filed by the butchers of New Orleans in 1869 to protect their livelihoods against a legislatively-created monopoly, and represented the Supreme Court's 1st opportunity to interpret the 14th amendment and achieve national protection for civil rights.
