To trace the development of a carefully selected sample of families in Galveston, Texas/ from the post-Civil War period to the present in order to define social and cultural factors which have led to the establishment of enduring family dynasties of entrepreneurs. Patterns in the development of established Galveston elites are expected to reflect themes and factors which have been important in the formation of 20th cent. American business and corporate culture.
