To study Latin works of Polish humanists and major published sources (including Erasmus' letters and the Acta Tomiciana documentary collection) in order to examine the early phase of Polish Renaissance humanism to 1543. During this period, the new cultural outlook was patronized almost exclusively by the royal court, the upper clergy, and members of the magnate class, and humanism contributed substantially to the formation of the magnates' aristocratic ethos.
