Bureaucracy and Revolution: Domestic Administration in Russia, 1881-1924

To study the anatomy and role of the central government bureaucracy in Russia from the death of Alexander II in 1881 to that of Lenin in 1924. The relationship of the Russian bureaucracy to the revolutionary upheavals of the first two decades of the 20th century will be analyzed. The precise origins of the highly bureaucratized Soviet party/ state of today will be traced.
