A Hermenuetics Reader: A Collection of Major Essays in Hermeneutics

FAIN: FT-13977-78

Richard E. Palmer
MacMurray College (Jacksonville, IL 62650-2510)

To gather together into a "hermeneutics reader" the most important ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary essays in hermeneutics. The collection will be divided into 3 major parts: ancient hermeneutics (mostly allegorical and figural interpretation of Homer and of Scripture, both the Torah and the Bible), the rise of modern literal and philological methods of textual interpretation (from Erasmus to the present), and the development, since Schleiermacher, of philosophical reflection on the art of understanding and interpretation.
