The Ravenna Collectives: Islands of Socialism in the North Italian Countryside

To conduct in-depth interviews of families on Ravenna's collective farms. The perceptions of the families regarding the collectives, their roles as worker-owner- managers, and the importance of social and material incentives in the continuing success of Ravenna's collectives will be explored. The collectives' relationship to labor unions and political parties and to the whole complex phenomenon known in Italy as "municipal socialism" will also be investigated.
