Project is an on-going quantitative analysis of records of land sales and mortgages in the Kenyan town of Mombasa from 1891-1919. Study will show the changing patterns of land usage and values during a crucial period of transition in Kenya's economy. Although land has been an important political and scholarly issue in Africa, no systematic statistical analysis such as this has ever been conducted. Long term goal is at least two articles and a book.
