This summer stipend will support the bulk of the remaining on-site archival research needed to complete my second book. This work will examine Victorian technological enthusiasm by looking at spectacles of modernity at the Centennial Exposition. These spectacles ranged from the panoply of machines and gadgets that made up many of the displays to the architecture of the buildings to the treatment of history as progress.
