The project is an edited volume of selected plays written by Meng Jinghui, China's leading avant-garde theater director and playwright. In addition to the translations of five critically acclaimed plays performed in China from 1992-2002, the edition shall also contain a substantial critical introduction that explores the aesthetics of Meng Jinghui's dramatic language, their cultural contribution to the development of new Chinese theater, and their political critiques. The edition is to be accompanied by a set of DVDs containing English-subtitled video recordings of the plays. The edition will enhance Chinese language, literature, and culture courses and supplement inter-disciplinary curriculums.
