Building on my archival discoveries about Harrison and Co.’s THE NOVELIST’S MAGAZINE (1779-88) and the network of print products surrounding its production, this project doubles as a print-culture account of a pivotal stage in the English novel’s history and a rare case-study of a late 18th-century bookselling, publishing, and print firm. A microcosm of the late 18th-century British book trade, the Harrison imprints posit a network of familial ties, professional bonds, and textual and material intersections. My study of this network will not only illustrate the ways in which this firm informed the making of the English novel, but it will also advance our understanding of the British book trade and its intricate relationship to cultural production during this era.
