FAIN: FT-53955-06

Kenneth M. Swope
Ball State University (Muncie, IN 47306-1022)

This project is an expansion and revision of the middle three chapters of my 2001 University of Michigan dissertation. In it I will focus on the social, economic, and geo-political effects of the Japanese invasion of Korea in the 1590s for East Asia as a whole and Ming (1368-1644) China in particular. Drawing on Chinese, Korean and Japanese primary and secondary sources, the book will be the first scholarly monograph on the subject in English. Fieldwork for the project was largely completed in the summer of 2005 by virtue of a research trip to South Korea. I will use the grant period to finish reading primary materials and complete a first draft of the first chapter of the book.
