For centuries, in many parts of the world the study of philosophy, logic, and science was the study of the writings of Aristotle. Within much of the Hellenistic and medieval world, commentaries on Aristotle were the context for important original philosophical work. The Ancient Commentators on Aristotle project has coordinated the publication of more than 50 scholarly and accurate translations of the most important ancient Greek commentaries. I have been chosen to be responsible for the Commentary on Posterior Analytics 2. 1 – 10 attributed to Philoponus (490? to 570? CE). An NEH Summer Fellowship will free up time to devote myself to this project.
