FAIN: FT-54860-07

SUNY Research Foundation, Albany (Albany, NY 12222-0001)

The project (a volume on Strindberg for the Routledge Modern and Contemporary Dramatists Series) will offer a critical introduction and shed new light on the playwright’s vital contributions to theatrical modernism. It will also explore Strindberg's drama as a living voice that has challenged audiences, critics, and even the most innovative directors. The volume will help readers understand the impact of the playwright’s work on theatre culture beyond his own time and the relevance and significance of his work for our theatre today. The NEH grant will make possible the research in Swedish archives for chapter 3 which will trace the reception and production history of seminal Strindberg plays from their original production to the present.
