The Multivocal Past: Archaeological and Native American Perspectives on a Southwestern Cultural Landscape

FAIN: FT-54916-07

The proposed project will produce two publications describing, discussing and interpreting the cultural meaning of an important landscape in the American Southwest using information collected both through traditional archaeological research and from discussions with groups of Native Americans with ancestral ties to the region. The works are designed to show that collaborative research between Native Americans and archaeologists can provide a more complete and humanistic understanding of the past, as each bring different points of view and perspectives to the endeavor. The publications include one directed to a popular outlet, designed to reach the wider interested public, and one oriented to the scholarly archaeological community.
