"The Prisoners of New York: Captivity and Memory in the American Revolution"

FAIN: FT-54945-07

Edwin G. Burrows

During the Revolutionary War, more Americans lost their lives in the prisons and prison ships of New York City than from any other cause – very nearly twice as many as those who died in combat. This is the first-ever scholarly study of their experiences and how they would be remembered, celebrated, memorialized, and largely forgotten over the past 200 years.
