In this book, I am specifically interested in the way the Miltonic-Romantic tradition confronts the “loss of paradise” in major poems (almost all of which have entered the canon) written in blank verse. While the book presents itself as a series of readings, its chapters are all related to one another in such a way as to tell a story about the development of English poetry from Milton in the seventeenth to Stevens in the twentieth century.
