A Scholarly Edition of Henry James's Ghost Stories

FAIN: FT-55077-07

I propose to collect the short ghost stories by the American author Henry James in a scholarly edition that will also include cultural, historical, and biographical materials. Such a collection is not currently in print, despite the high critical esteem in which critics hold these texts. This edition will be of interest to the trade market as well as to scholars, teachers, and students. In addition, given James's preeminence as a writer and theorist of fiction, this text will add to the scholarship both on the ghost story as a subgenre of fiction and to James as a writer of fantastic as well as realistic tales.
