Shorter Latin Works of Giovanni Boccaccio

FAIN: FT-55609-08

With the support of the NEH Summer Stipend, I will prepare a volume that includes translations of some of Giovanni Boccaccio's (1313-1375) Latin works, that have never been translated into English: his Latin poems (including Buccolicum Carmen), his letters, and his brief Latin biographies (of Petrarch, Livy and St. Peter Damian), and two shorter erudite works (De Canaria and Allegoria Mitologica). I will write an introduction to the volume, prepare all the notes, and translate the prose texts. This collection of texts will provide students and scholars of the Renaissance a view into the intellectual development of one of the first and most influential figures of the period. As a testament to the importance of this project, Harvard University Press has agreed to issue me a publishing agreement for this volume.
