This project focuses on the completion of a new English translation of Martin Heidegger's second major work, Beitraege zur Philosophie (Vom Ereignis). This is one of the most important yet difficult books of the German philosopher who is responsible for the development and contemporary focus of Continental Philosophy, and whose work has served as a major influence in other fields, for example literary theory, cultural studies, and psychology. Beitraege zur Philosophie provides essential access to the development of Heidegger's thought in the thirties and contains reflections on the dangers of what he calls "machination," namely an overpowering prevalence of a technological and calculative mindset in our times that is paired with the search for ever more excitement. Due to recent developments in translation rights of the book, along with the fact that the current translation is so poor, the same press has decided to publish a new translation and has asked me to serve as co-translator.
