FAIN: FT-58680-11

Catherine Mary Parisian
University of North Carolina, Pembroke (Pembroke, NC 28372-8699)

This project will provide the first accurate publication history of the works of the eighteenth-century British novelist Frances Burney. It will consider the composition, printing, publishing, marketing, circulation, illustration, and reading of these works. Unlike most works of this kind, it will include foreign and post copyright editions of Burney’s work to show how they circulated across national boundaries and through two hundred years of time. It will also include a complete illustration history Burney’s works, reproducing the illustrations, which survive today in only a limited number of copies and thereby making them available for the first time to a broad audience. The Publication History of the Works of Frances Burney will provide a foundation for future scholarship on Burney as well as stand as a point of reference for other studies in the history of the book.
