This project moves the study of globalization beyond the focus on the United States and other advanced industrialized capitalist countries as the primary globalizing agents to understand the active part played by nations of the socialist and Third Worlds. I examine how members of the non-aligned movement understood the economic institutions they created to support East-South and South-South production, trade, and finance as socialist. How might these institutions have shaped the globalization we see today? What are the consequences and afterlives of these socialist globalizations? This research provides a new perspective on economic globalization, international development, and the Cold War.
