A five-week seminar on French drama for sixteen school teachers, to be held in Avignon, France, during an annual theater festival.

Mary Ann Frese Witt, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, will direct a seminar in Avignon, France, on modern French theater, conducted in French. Authors of the plays to be studied include Jean-Paul Sartre, Jean Genet, Eugène Ionesco, and Samuel Beckett. The seminar will be based on discussion, in which everyone is expected to participate. The seminar will meet mornings for five weeks; attendance at all seminar meetings is mandatory. In addition, everyone will meet individually with the director. Participants in the seminar will be required to do oral reports, to participate in producing scenes from plays, and to write two papers. The seminar will take place in July, during the annual theater festival in Avignon, and participants will attend productions relevant to the theme of the seminar.
